The City Council has scheduled a public hearing regarding  changing the
name of 39th Avenue to Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard.  The  ordinance
introduced by Mayor Adams is available online at the following  link:

This  will likely be the ONLY public hearing before the City Council.
It will be  your last chance to tell your story why 39th Avenue should
not be  renamed.

Members of Save 39th have had conversations with almost all of  the
City Commissioners. Several have said that they will be persuaded  by
the QUALITY of the comments as well as the QUANTITY.  You will have  3
minutes or less to make your statement, so take some time over  the
next few days to think about what is important to you and how you  want
to say it. Most importantly BE POLITE and BE RESPECTFUL.  We will  be
much more persuasive if we are kind in the face of even the  nastiest
of accusations.

WHAT: Council Hearing on proposed  Street Renaming

WHERE: Council Chambers at Portland City Hall, 1221 SW  4th Ave., 2nd Floor

WHEN: 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 23, 2009

WHY:  To make a final determination in the best interests of the City
for what  street, if any, will be renamed for Cesar Chavez, hear the
report from the  Planning Commission as outlined in City Code Title
17.93, and take public  testimony.
